Llegando desde una isla donde abunda la energía del Reggaetón y la energía caribeña,Laya Kalima e una talentosa puertorriqueña que ha pasado desapercibida, pero que cuenta con gran talento.
Con una voz hipnotizante, que te absorbe y te obliga a escuchar sus canciones una y otra vez, Kalima utiliza un estilo único para incorporarse en un ambiente de música latina tradicional. A esta joven se lo podría comparar con la artista SZA de TDE.
Con un rango vocal impresionante, la joven muestra gran habilidad y versatilidad entre sus pistas, como en “El Último Deseo”, donde el coro se combina con sonidos de guitarra lo que le da un toque isleño.
“Dime”,otro de sus temas, actualmente tiene cerca de 12000 reproducciones en Spotify. En este se aprecia un ritmo de trap más moderno, pero aún así, se puede apreciar un estilo indie que mezcla elementos de pop.
Hace apenas una semana se lanzó su más reciente sencillo, “Dame Más”, que cuenta con la colaboración de Cartagena. En este se muestra una vez más su habilidad para abrirse camino y encontrar su propio estilo.
Con la pista recién lanzada el viernes pasado, no se pueden pasar por alto las impresionantes imágenes. Mostrando no solo su habilidad musical, sino también visualmente para crear cierta estética con el contenido creativo. Puede ser esto uno de los aspectos más prometedores de la joven artista puetorriqueña.
Kalima continúa trabajando en un proyecto oficial para su debut y promete que seguirá siendo una artista con la que todos querrán estar familiarizados.

On an island that has no shortage of latin rap and Reggaeton energy, one ofPuerto Rico’s more under the radar (at least for now), yet most talented young vocalists that’s seen an impressive 2020 as an artist so far is the PR’s Laya Kalima.
Possessing a hypnotizing voice, that almost sucks you in and forces you to hit replay, Kalima has a limited discography to date yet still buzzes with potential through the roof. Playing off her own modern twist on a more traditional sounding latin music vibe, the comparison that comes to mind for Laya(even if it is on a much smaller scale at the current moment) in the mainstream American market is an artist such as TDE’s SZA.
Displaying a similar style, delivery, and impressive vocal range Kalima shows a lot of ability and versatility in diversifying her voice from track to track such as on El Último Deseo, where a melodic hook paired with an impressive guitar combo that gives a very island-esque vibe to her sound.
Other standout tracks, such as her current top track entitled Dime, currently holds close to 12K streams on Spotify but shows the other end of the extreme in terms of her sound. With a more modern trap beat, yet a mesmerizing almost indie styled instrumental Kalima flows effortlessly between high vocals and a hip-hop styled rap delivery. Even mixing in elements of pop, one can’t help but smile and dance around while listening.
However, it's her latest release entitled Dame Mas featuring Cartagena that once again shows her ability to carve out her own lane and find her own pocket of sound no matter the vibe. Between the beat itself, to her delivery, and Cartagena bringing a modern rap flavor of his own this latest track will remind you of an early Jhene Aiko. Kalima shows an impressive ability yet again on Dame Mas to adapt and fearlessly experiment with her own talent, ability, and ultimately creativity too.
With the track having just released this past Friday, not to be overlooked either were the impressive visuals that accompanied it. Showing her ability not only musically, but visually to create a certain aesthetic with her creative content may be one of the most promising aspects of the young Puerto Rican artist.
As she continues to work todays an official debut project, Laya Kalima will without a doubt continue to be an underground name in the Latin music world that you’ll want to be acquainted with.
