A new front-runner in the DMV game has quickly risen to prevalence, and it’s clear he’s ready for war. Making plays and moving under the name Balla, this street veteran comes from Benning Terrace, D.C., also dubbed Simple City or Baby Vietnam due to the notorious reputation for violent gang activity throughout the 90’s. However, his experience growing up in an area known for making or breaking individuals paved his way into the DMV rap scene.
Signed to Major Life Music, an independent label sourced out of the Washington Metropolitan Area, Balla has pushed his talent for United States drill heavily into nine separate single/EP projects throughout 2021. After serving a seven year sentence and ducking law enforcement in years prior, the nine releases in just 7 months proves Balla’s out to make up for lost time and claim his throne amongst the DMV. His most popular single to date, Rock N Roll, featuring Big Scarr, has just topped 40,000 streams on Spotify; Although, his most recent release of Goat Talk, released the same day as his visuals project is rapidly catching up on YouTube with 214,000 views within just the first week.
There’s still much unknown about this up and coming artist, as he’s determined to make known only what he wishes - but lucky for us, it’s mostly captivating stories through his lyricism on each track. Go stream Goat Talk on any major streaming platform and keep up to date with his next projects @activeballa on Twitter and Instagram. Make sure to check back in early next week for more up and coming names, artist interviews, and signing announcements with Enigmatic!
